The premise of the new foreign film “What If?” is not a new one. The movie offers two scenerios of what would happen in the lives of a couple, who work for a well-respected law firm in Paris. When one of the firm’s partners dies, the man and the woman each are considered for the job.
The “what if” is what would happen to this couple if the woman became a partner or the man did. As we follow each of these possibilites, which parallel each other, we see that what happens to one could also happen to the other.
Although the film is not a comedy, the director tells the story with a light touch. Similar to “Sideways,” an American film of a few years ago, this is better. Wait until the end; I don’t think you will be disappointed.
