Recently, NPR conducted a survey among its listeners to determine what they considered the “Best 100 YA Novels.” The results were based on votes from their audience and a panel of expert judges. The criteria were based on the popularity of the novel (how many votes did it get), how did it fit in the YA category, age of the main characters, and themes.
The entire list is available on the NPR web site. Some of the results were surprising; others were to be expected. Number one was the Harry Potter Series. Many series, besides this one, made the list. “Hunger Games” was number two. There were many classics included. “To Kill a Mockingbird,” “The Hobbit,” “Catcher in the Rye,” “The Lord of the Rings.” Newer titles were “Perks of a Wallflower,” “Speak,” and “The Fault in our Stars” all of which received many votes. Number 100 was the classic series “Betsy-Tacy.”
Take a look at the list. It’s interesting.
