I know this is an oldie, but I think it qualifies as a ‘goodie!’ I never read anything before by Beverly Lewis, but I blew through the first book, The Shunning, fairly quickly. The book is about a young Amish woman, Katie, who learns right before her wedding to the Bishop that she is actually the daughter of an English woman and her parents adopted her. Katie is thrown for a loop by this information, but she realizes quickly that her not actually being Amish is why she’s always had trouble accepting the Old Ways. Katie refuses to confess her sins and repent, so she is shunned from the People- no one will talk or look at her, so she ends up leaving the community to go find her birth mother.
It’s a decent book. I guess Lewis grew up in Lancaster county so she is very familiar with Amish customs, so I found it absolutely fascinating.
