With the Olympics just around the corner, here are three new books that deal with that event.
A new picture book “Olympig!” deals with Boomer, who is the first pig ever to compete in the Animal Olympics. Written for ages 5-9, this funny story also teaches the lesson that not everyone can win at everything.
Award winning sports writer John Feinstein has written a new novel in his mystery sports series. “Mystery at the Olympics-Rush for the Gold” is set in London, 2012. Susan Carol Anderson is competing as a swimmer and her boyfriend, Stevie Thomas, is a teen sports journalist. Although this book received good reviews, all the copies in the system have not circulated very much–ours has not as yet been checked out.
A new book by Chris Cleave was recently reviewed in the NYT. Set in London, 2012, it is the story of two women who are competing for a slot on the British sprint cycling team. Cleeve’s last two books were well received by the critics. I know that “Little Bee” is still asked for here. Unfortunately, the Times critic called “Gold” Beaches on bikes.
