I just finished reading first-time novelist Chad Harbach’s “The Art of Fielding.” Set in present-day at a small mid-western college, the plot revolves around college baseball. You don’t have to be a fan to enjoy the book. I don’t follow baseball at all, but really enjoyed his descriptions of the games. The five major characters were so well drawn that each could have carried the story on his/her own. The author’s rhythm and voice moved the story forward effortlessly. A great read.
