A new picture book by Kristy Dempsey is a cute rhyming story about a girl chick and her father who tries to teach her how to surf. For those young ones just learning to swim, surfer chick shows her fear of the water and waves without giving up and, of course, finally conquering “the big one.” It was just reviewed in People magazine (top literary journal) and I had read it to my daughter this week. Good summer fun.
