New to our foreign film collection, “Renoir” is set in the French countryside in the year 1915.  Wracked with pain, Renoir is tenderly and lovingly ministered to by his household staff.  His wife has died and two of his sons are off fighting.

His middle son Jean is wounded and returns to his father’s home to convalesce.  At about the same time a young woman comes to the home asking to model for Renoir.  She becomes his muse and Renoir begins a new set of nudes.  Jean becomes enamored of this woman, and they begin an affair.  After the war, Jean’s interest in movie making grows and he becomes a major force in French cinema.

Beautifully filmed the movie captures the place and time period.  Although slow moving, it faithfully depicts the Renoir household and the interaction between father, son and muse.
