This past week I attended the “Fall Into Books” conference and I really loved the chance to meet other Teen librarians and book enthusiasts! My favorite part of the day, however, was the opening speaker Jen Hubert Swan who writes the “Reading Rants!” blog which reviews Young Adult books. Not only was she funny but I could relate to her own personal experiences that she shared about her reading history. One of her main points in her speech was that it doesn’t matter what you (or children/teens) are reading but just that you are reading at all. It does not matter if its a Gossip Girl book or the new issue of Seventeen magazine- I think that it’s important to encourage ALL types of reading because it can lead to reading more and more and eventually getting to the “good” stuff.
I’d never read her blog before hearing her speak but I am so glad that I checked it out! All of the books she reviewed are the same exact ones that I have been dying to read. We must be kindred spirits.
