The Memorial Day weekend seemed to be an appropriate time to watch the new movie “Red Tails.”  Supposedly based on a true story, the movie deals with black fliers during WWII.  Truthfully, I couldn’t watch the whole movie.  Other movies have done a much better job portraying the prejudice against the Tuskeegee Airmen.  This one was boring even with the visual effects produced by George Lucas’ studio.  The actors, including Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Terrence Howard, just couldn’t capture the time period of this era of American history.

On the other hand, the newest version of John LeCarre’s “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” was superb.  I have not read the book or seen the earlier Alec Guiness version, but I am sure this film did both justice.  The all-British cast really captured the Cold War period.  Gary Oldman, John Hurt, Colin Firth, Toby Jones and the rest of the cast were perfect.  The plot moves back and forth in time and keeps you guessing until the very end.
