Since we are in the process of assessing our magazine subscriptions, I found this new story interesting. The American Society of Magazine Editors recently released its list of finalists for their National Magazine Awards.
“Esquire” with four nominations overall was one of 26 magazines to receive multiple award. “National Geographic” received seven nominations and “Bon Appetit” and “New York” received six each. Other magazines with multiple nominations were “GQ,” “The New Yorker,” “Harper’s Magazine,” “Mother Jones,” and “Texas Monthly.” Among other magazines that had multiple nominations were “Real Simple” and “Martha Stewart Living.” Some magazines we don’t subscribe to that were also nominated were “Golf Digest,” “Scientific America,” “Sports Illustrated,” and “W.”
Several very specialized magazines were first-time finalists. Among these were “Byliner” “HGTV,” and “Bullet.” Perhaps we should consider some of these magazines for our collection.
