“Self” is one of the more popular women’s magazines.  As of the March, 2013, issue they are changing the focus of their periodical. The editors are broadening its focus from exercise and wellness to a more general lifestyle format.  The publisher stated, “Being fit and fashionable are really one.”  This change will also alter the demographic group the magazine previously appealed to.  The magazine was aimed at the mid-30s woman within a $75,000 household.  Now it is meant to appeal to women 18 to 30 who are very into social media.

I have also seen two other women’s magazines that have recently broadened their format.  Both “Better Homes and Gardens” and “Good Housekeeping” are including more fashion articles along with their food and home decor features.

Print periodicals need to appeal to more readership if they want to stay profitable.
