As I was cataloging several new books tonight, I came across this title by one of our local authors. The subtitle is “Using the Power of Acknowledgment to engage all your people and achieve superior results.” It is written for leaders in the workplace, but also for the general public. Ms. Umlas tells a story of having a problem with a boarding pass during a trip, and encountering a very helpful transportation security agent who straightened out the matter for her and treated her very well ni the process. She wanted to acknowledge him to his superior, and let him know what a great job the agent had done. However, the only forms available were complaint forms! So she adjusted one, and later heard back from the agent’s boss, who was very pleased with her letter, stating that he rarely receives letters of praise. The boss showed the agent her note as well, who was thrilled, and the agent was later used in a training meeting as how to be an exemplary employee. All this from one note of praise. It really makes one think about the positive power of one individual. This book looks like a very interesting read.
