This is another disturbing book on death and why we can’t seem to get it right. In this case the author’s father has had a serious stroke, makes a modest recovery, and is given a pacemaker. His health continues to deteriorate quite drastically. The request for the pacemaker to be dismantled is denied, condemning him to a prolonged, painful death. The author tries to understand how things could have been handled differently, according to the wishes of the family.
