Saw this DVD last night, on Marie’s recommendation. It is a really interesting story, based on a true story. A filthy rich quadriplegic is interviewing for a new care giver. All are “regular guys” except Driss, a huge African, who just wants a signature to prove he is looking for work and can remain on the dole. His feisty personality interests Phillipe and he is given a trial hire. Driss learns to care for Phillipe and doesn’t pamper him. The two explore each others backgrounds and form a strong bond. Where Phillipe is cautious, Driss overrules him. He has a correspondence going with a woman. Driss takes it to the telephone stage. Phillipe learns about Driss’ difficult life and helps him with ideas. After a museum trip, Driss takes up painting and Phillipe sells one to a friend, saying it is an upcoming artist! They play lots of jokes. And in the end Phillipe meets the woman, and Driss gets a driver’s job (he will miss driving the Maserati and riding in the private jet) and will settle down to help his adoptive mother and family. Of course they remain friends.
