This a new book by the Australian author of “What Alice Forgot.” In her latest title, we meet Tess and Will, young parents to Liam, who are in business with Tess’ cousin, Felicity. All seems to be going like clockwork, when the newly slimmed down Felicity announces that she and Will are now in love. We meet Rachel Crowley, widowed secretary at the elementary school who lost her teenage daughter in an unsolved murder more than 20 years ago. Rachel believes the PE teacher in her school is her daughter’s killer. We meet Cecilia, mother of 3 girls, who is a take-charge, president of the PTA, Tupperware saleswoman, much admired mom who finds a letter from her husband that states, “Do not open until my death,” that she finds hard to resist opening though her husband is much alive. All of these characters affect each other’s lives for better or worse. It comes across as a light-hearted novel, but actually has an intensity that builds. Examines the question of forgiveness and possibilities.
