Now that New York and most states are adhering to the Common Core curriculum, teachers and schools are changing many of the themes and books they use in the classroom. www.Engageny.org is the New York Education web site. They have been releasing “recommended” modules to be used in the classrooms for ELA and Math. Just last week they came out with one for grade 7. In these modules, they “suggest” teachers use certain books in the classroom (example: “A Long Walk to Water” by Linda Sue Park). Probably, these titles will be purchased by the schools and distributed to students. However, many parents also visit the web site now and proactively search for the lessons and titles that may be used in their child’s classroom. These modules can be lengthy (hundreds of pages). I don’t know if more parents and teachers will be requesting these titles from us or not.
