This is book fourteen in the Gabriel Allon series. Allon is an art historian and Israeli spy. He is restoring a painting in Venice when summoned by the Italian police about a murder in Lake Cumo. The dead man is a British spy who has been trafficking in stolen art works and Allon is asked to find a missing Caravaggio. The search takes him to Paris, London and Corsica and finally to a small bank in Austria that holds the wealth of a Syrian dictator. Working there is a woman who can help Allon steal the money and avenge the massacre of her family.
I made the mistake of putting this book down for a week or so and had a little trouble picking up the story again. Silva writes a very complicated but intriguing spy mystery. I will not say if the Caravaggio is recovered.
