Commissario Guido Brunetti is back for the 33rd time, in a new mystery set in Venice. This time he must look into a previous happening in an Italian military compound twenty years earlier in Iraq. Dario Monforte was a carabinieri at that time, and was lauded as a hero for saving soldiers from burning to death in a fire on the compound. However, the deeper Brunetti digs, with the help of his colleagues, including the infamous Signorina Elettra with her dazzling computer skills, he is able to ferret out the sordid details of what really happened. Donna Leon is still going strong with this series, and if you’ve ever traveled to Venice, you will enjoy reading about the various locales described in the novel.
