I came across an article last month just after I had read this title by Charles Cumming. A Foreign Country is a British spy novel that begins with the murder of an elderly French couple on vacation in Egypt. Then the illegitimate son of Amelia Levene, the woman potentially next in line for chief of MI6, is kidnapped and Amelia herself disappears. Lots of action and quick pacing made it an enjoyable read, and I was happy to learn that it has been chosen at the first Scottish crime-writing festival as the Scottish Crime Book of the Year.
