The April issue of Prevention magazine has an article titled: Walk Away Stress: 5 ways to leave your worries behind. The author suggests five different walks to try out. The first is a touch walk, where you physically engage with nature. Next is a hill walk, where you walk up & down a hill and notice which muscles you are using. There is a birding walk, which is just as it sounds: find an area where you can observe different types of birds. You can opt for a scent walk where you pay attention to the scents that surround you, and finally, a spirit walk, where you focus on your breath and footsteps, and engage in mindfulness. Adding an affirmation to reflect on is helpful as well. And if you live locally, visit the rail trail, which runs from Blauvelt to Piermont. Happy Walking!
