Way back in the 1970s, Judy Blume was the children’s must read author. She dealt with serious subjects that attracted very big audiences. Now in 2013, she and her son, Lawrence, had collaborated on a film version of one of her most popular novels “Tiger Eyes.” This novel is the story of a teenage girl named Davey who witnesses the killing of her father in their convenience store in Atlantic City. The distraught family moves to Los Alamos, N.M. to live with family.
When Blume received funding for a film project she knew that “Tiger Eyes” was the movie she wanted to make. She and her son wrote the screenplay, and he directed the movie. Working with a limited budget, the finished film made its way around the film festival circuit. Eventually, the film was picked up by an independent distributor, Freestyle Releasing. It will be available as a download on Friday, June 8, and will also be shown in theaters around the country.
Blume’s appearances drew sell-out crowds wherever she appeared. Judging from her continuing popularity, the film will definitely find an audience.
