I picked this up thinking it was a Vi Warshawski story; no wonder it seemed strange to me. She is a character who was created by Sara Paretsky, not Martha Grimes. Needless to say, it took me a while to figure out the plot, and there were just too many characters for me to keep track of. I struggled through it, but it’s not really my “cup of tea”.
The plot involves an agent who is suing a writer for a supposed breach of contract, and somehow two fairly likeable hitmen come to her aid. They convince a publisher and another writer to help them set up the unscrupulous agent, and use many other characters along the way, including the agent’s uncle who had a sex change and is now his aunt…
I would probably recommend this to a reader who enjoys a large cast of colorful characters in his /her mystery novel.
