A thriller/mystery, ‘The Pocket Wife’ begins with the murder of Celia- a white, suburban mother found dead in her house. Dana, her friend and neighbor was with her that day, but doesn’t remember exactly what happened. Did she kill Celia?
Bi-polar Dana suspects she might be guilty. We learn that Celia had a suspicious picture on her cell phone that she showed Dana that day. Was the picture Dana’s husband out with his mistress? When Dana tries to view the picture sober from dead Celia’s phone, she discovers that it has been erased. As an unreliable narrator, Dana is not the most sympathetic character.
Jack Moss, the detective on the case, is afraid the suspects are too close to home. Is his ne’er-do-well son, Kyle, involved?
The pace of the book has slow moments that pick up towards the end. Chapters told in varying points of view.
