I started reading The City of Bones last weekend and I couldn’t put it down. The story is about Clary, a young teen who suddenly starts noticing the really weird things going on around her. It turns out that she’s a Shadowhunter, part of an elite group that are half angel, half human, who are supposed to fight demons and send them back to their own dimension. Her mother has disappeared. Her best friend, Simon, is in love with her and is willing to put up with the sudden craziness in her life. The Shadowhunter who reluctantly takes her under his wing to keep her safe is named Jace. There is an attraction between Jace and Clary that is undeniable, but if you want to find out why they can never be together, you need to read the book.
This is a piece of YA fiction that is actually written- the characters are fleshed out, scenes are described, and it moves along at a nice pace. It’s definitely better written than most YA books I’ve read recently- I’d give it an A.
