I’m currently reading the Inn Boonsboro trilogy that is Roberts latest offering. The second in the trilogy is called “The Last Boyfriend.” The trilogy centers around the three Montgomery brothers who are restoring the Inn Boonsboro. Each man is attracted to a certain businesswoman in their community. In the second book, Owen Montgomery gradually falls in love with their longtime family friend, Avery MacTavish. There relationship develops gradually over several months in this book and not during the typical Robert’s relationship time frame of about a month- it’s a refreshing change. The plot is lacking the typical Roberts dramatic plot climax- I guess it would be when Avery’s mother returns asking her and her father for money after taking off two decades ago. I feel like that “conflict” was thrown in to make Avery’s character seem more complex and dysfunctional than the woman actually is- she’s relatively well-adjusted for being motherless for 2/3rds of her life. Overall, it’s a light-hearted romance that it is easy read and it makes you smile.
Note: This series is mainly a plug for Robert’s inn in the town that she lives in, but it works because now I want to go and experience the inn for myself. It’s smart marketing.
