I saw The Hunger Games movie last night and I absolutely loved it!  A quick synopsis of the film: each year the 12 Districts of Panem are required to offer up two Tributes between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in The Hunger Games as punishment for an uprising that occured almost 75 years before against The Capitol.  The story centers around Katniss Everdeen and her struggle to survive, so she can return to her sister and mother.

I adored the book and I have to say that the movie was ALMOST as good as the book.  As an avid reader, I am often disappointed when a book makes the jump from the written page to the big screen, but I was blown away by the film.  The script was excellent and it even gave the viewer more of a back story for the other characters that you don’t get in the book because it’s all told from Katniss’ point of view.  I think it was partially so well-written and true to the book because the author, Suzanne Collins, was one of the scriptwriters.  They added and changed a few things, of course, but as a fan of the book, I felt it only added to the film 97% of the time and I was okay with it.

The only thing I was not okay with was that many parents brought very young children to see the film.  This is one film where I would not argue the PG-13 rating.  The movie is about teenagers killing each other for the amusement of a ruthless governing body, and while it had the potential to be much more graphic than it was, I would not take anyone under the age of 13 to see it.
