Chris Pavone’s new book “The Accident” is a book within a book.  “The Accident” is the explosive, revealing story of a major media mogul and his past.  The author, who is not revealed until the very end of the book, knows where “all the bodies are buried.”  He has sent the manuscript to a well-known agent, who knows that she is dealing with a potential blockbuster book.  She, in turn, shares the manuscript with her friend, who works for a well-known publishing company.

Pavone, as an author, knows the workings of the publishing game.  All the people involved in getting a book published become key players in the story.  The other major characters are ruthless agents, who will do everything to see that the book is not published.

The story is not told in chronological order.  It jumps from the past to the present and back again.  The settings are in several countries in Europe and various places in the U.S.  All the characters are not who they seem to be.  Everyone is hiding something.

Although, at times, the plot gets confusing, the story is fast paced.  It is relatively easy to predict the ending, but getting there is fun.
