Based on a recent Pew study of younger Americans views on libraries, it appears that they still love print media and support traditional library services. While they are more likely than older adults to use library technology, specifically computers and the Internet, younger Americans are still tied to print resources. About 75% of those between the ages of 16 and 29 report that they had read at least one book in print in the last year, as opposed to only 60% of adults ages 30 and up. Other views of younger Americans under age 30 regarding libraries in the article include the importance of librarians (YEA!), and the importance of offering free databases, free access to computers and the Internet, print media, quiet spaces, job/career resources and programs /classes for children & teens. But lest you get too excited, the end of the article does admit that slightly older adults ( those in their 30’s and 40’s) do value libraries more than their younger counterparts.
