Having enjoyed Gone Girl, I decided to try this title out. The protagonist is a reporter for the fourth-largest newspaper in Chicago, and is given the assignment to write about two murders of young girls in her home town of Wind Gap, Missouri. Unfortunately her mother still lives in the town, along with Camille’s stepfather and stepsister, and is the poster child for horrid mothers. Along the way, the reader discovers that Camille is a cutter, and is in recovery from her addiction. Living back home with her mother, however, is threatening her recovery, along with her sanity. Flynn pens a fast paced mystery,  which grabs the reader’s attention, and the true identity of the murderer is revealed in a shocking conclusion.
