If you have ever seen the original Mitty, don’t see this one. Sorry, because I like Ben Stiller but Danny Kaye was so much more charming and believable when he drifted into his daydreams. Plus the daydreams themselves were given the time they needed to be realized. In the Stiller movie, they are sometimes only a minute and then back to reality before you have time to know it was a daydream – they seem like quick, cheap laughs. The romance was also better plus a bit of mystery thrown in to keep you guessing. Virginia Mayo and Boris Karloff added to the enjoyment. I must confess I haven’t read the short story by James Thurber. Yet.
