I was so surprised to discover that the setting for this novel is Snedens Landing. As the protagonist, Grace, explains: “Out here, in Sneden’s Landing– it may have been renamed Palisades, but Grace and Ted have been here too long, and it will always be Sneden’s to them…” This novel is written in first person, and the protagonist, Grace, is a successful cook and party hostess. But she has to deal with her husband, Ted, a moody writer that experiences rage at times and uses Grace for the scapegoat. When his longtime assistant leaves, Grace is lucky to find a replacement, Beth, who at first appears to be a perfect choice. But what Grace comes to discover is that Beth changes from the quiet, plain looking girl whom Grace hired, to a power hungry young woman determined to replace Grace in her perfect life. Will she be successful in proving Grace crazy and locking her away in an institution? You will have to read the novel to find out…
