The NYPL has plans for a 300 million plus renovation project that would move millions of research books into storage in NJ,in order to add titles for circulation, computers and a cafe. Apparently it is causing an uproar among bibliophiles, with historians and prize winning authors filing lawsuits against the renovation. The new plans would entail moving volumes from the Mid-Manhattan library across the street, as well as a nearby library collection comprised of science and business volumes. The two buildings would then be sold to generate an estimated 200 million. It seems the researchers are protesting based on the fact that they would no longer have immediate access to the research volumes. The NYPL has agreed not to start construction until mid-October…
