
Children’s author Uri Shulevitz passed away in February age 89. He was the author/illustrator of many children’s books including Caldecott winner, “The Fool of the World and the Flying Ship.” His family fled Poland as a young boy and they struggled as wartime refugees. After the war, his surviving family went to Germany, Paris, Israel and eventually Brooklyn, NY where he became an artist. Often depicting scenes from his childhood of war, Shulevitz’ drawings and paintings achieved recognition and awards. His book, “Chance: Escape from the Holocaust: Memories of a Refugee Childhood,” earned multiple awards including Best Books of 2020 from The New York Times and the National Jewish Book Award 2020 Finalist for Middle Grade Fiction 2020.
