Just finished this and found it fascinating. It’s a personal account of a NDE, or near death experience, but this time the author is a neurosurgeon. In 2008, while being in good health, Dr.A. woke up early one morning and was suddenly struck with a grand mal seizure, usually brought on by a severe shock to the brain. He was rushed to the hospital, and after some time, diagnosed with bacterial meningitis, where the bacteria attack the outer layer of the brain, or cortex, and is more deadly than viral meningitis. However, the bacteria causing his meningitis turned out to be E.Coli, which is virtually impossible to be present in spinal fluid unless the patient has a compromised immune system (as with HIV or AIDS) or recent surgery, neither of which he had. Having lost consciousness even before the ambulance arrived, Dr. A was virtually in a coma for 7 days, his body declining with each day. He didn’t respond to massive antibiotic treatments, was on a breathing tube, had very little brain activity and after the third day, his family and medical team began to lose hope.
By Sunday morning, his doctors decided it was time to stop the antibiotics and let nature take its course. But as Mrs. A was breaking the news by phone to their 20yr. old son, Dr. A. slowly opened his eyes and looked around, to his family’s and doctors’ amazement. It took some time for him to regain his faculties, but once he did he told his story of what he experienced while not present in his body. It is very detailed, but suffice it to say he brings back a very positive view of the afterlife. Dr. A. also now believes in a Higher Being, which he feels loves each and every one of us. He went from total dismissal of patients’ stories of NDEs to now being a believer, and feels he was “chosen” to try and convince medical professionals to open their minds to a different viewpoint. It is a very uplifting book, I suggest you give it a try.
