Many adult readers want to read the newest, best-selling books.  Children, or at least those who buy books for children, are basically the same.  Children’s literature is dominated by giants.  It is not difficult to understand why “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus” or “Where the Wild Things Are” continue to be best sellers.  Parents and grandparents love seeing children enjoy a book that may have cherished as a young child.  Often, however, a hit picture book can overshadow the author’s other works.

Here are some suggestions of other books children may enjoy by favorite authors.  If a child loved, “Where the Wild Things Are,” they should try “In the Kitchen.”  Even darker than “Wild Things,” “In the Kitchen” tells the story of Mickey, who in a dream, enters the kitchen where three bakers are busy preparing a cake.  Mickey’s bravery keeps the events from getting too frightening, and his resourcefulness saves the day.

If Mo Willem’s Pigeon books are favorites with all young readers, “Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs” will also be a hit.  A twist on the Goldilocks’ story with the addition of three dinosaurs who have set a trap for the golden-haired girl.9780062104182_p0_v1_s260x420  Other recommended books by literary giants are “Lulu and the Brontosaurus” by Judith Viorst, “Fables” by Arnold Lobel and “The Amazing Bone” by William Steig.
