Is the story of two sisters, Tippi and Grace, who are conjoined twins. Written as a novel-in-verse, “One” begins when the girls are 16 years-old. Named after their parents’ love of Hitchcock films, Tippi and Grace are sent to public school for the first time when the family’s financial situation becomes difficult. They are used to being stared at, but still long to fit in with people their own age.
Two students, Yasmeen and Jon, befriend the sisters and make them feel welcome. Grace develops a crush on Jon.
The extraordinary circumstances of Tippi and Grace is pushed to the tipping point when their health begins to falter. What could happen if one of them gets seriously ill? Should they take the risk and go for surgical separation? Do they really want to lead separate lives? This is the second Crossan novel-in-verse I’ve read and I like them both. Recommended.
