The number 1 and 2 best-selling books on Amazon this month are both coloring books. In the United Kingdom, 5 of the top 10 are coloring books. According to a recent Washington Post article, analysts attempting to decipher this coloring book movement think it may be a way for adults to ease stress. Others claim that perhaps the e-book and e-buying process allows adults to purchase books they would have been ‘shamed’ or embarrassed to buy from a live bookseller before. Just as “50 Shades of Grey” enabled people otherwise embarrassed to buy these titles anonymously online, the coloring book popularity may be the reflection of similar reasoning.
