We recently received a new order of JP/JF books.  They will all be on display in the Children’s Room.  This group has some really notable additions.

“Penny and Her Doll”  by Kevin Henkes is a new easy reader, chapter book.  Penny is a mouse who receives a new doll from Gram.  She now must give her a name.

“Bear Has a Story to Tell” by Philip Stead is a story that works on several levels.  Bear wants to tell all his friends a story, but they are all all too busy getting ready for fall and hibernation time.  When they are all reunited in the Spring, bear now can tell his story or can he?  The warm, muted illustrations add  just the right note to a good story.

“Mr. Zinger’s Hat” couples an old man, who is a story teller, and a young child, who learns how to tell a story.  Leo and Mr. Zinger form a bond built on the importance of  imagination.

“Kel Gilligan Presents His Daredevil Stunts Show” is told through oversized cartoon-like drawings.  Simple activities in the life of the little boy become death-defying stunts.  Reminds me, in a way, of the David books.

“The Boston Tea Party” by Russell Freedman is an excellent telling of that important historical event.  Filled with factual information in an easy-to-read style, any reader will come away with a better understanding of the pre-Revolutionary War event.  Vivid illustrations reflect the time period.

These are only a few of the new titles.
