I remember reading about this last year. The Booker Prize has been opened to all authors writing in English. It had been restricted to authors from Britain, Ireland and the Commonwealth.
Five Americans have made it onto the longlist. They are Karen Joy Fowler – We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves, Joshua Ferris – To Rise Again at a Decent Hour, Siri Hustvedt – The Blazing World, Richard Powers – Orfeo, and Joseph O’Neill’s forthcoming – The Dog.
The list of 13 authors includes 6 British, 1 Irish, and 1 Australian.
