I find it interesting to listen to my students’ requests for books at the beginning of the school year as they search for their first book to check out. Here are some:
“Where are the sad books?” “Do you have ‘A Long Walk to Water?’ “Where are the Percy Jackson books (frequent request), “Do you have the ‘I Survived’ books (Lauren Tarshis), ” Where are the WWII books?”, “Do you have ‘Miss Peregrine’s School for…’?”, “Where can I find the ‘Pretty Little Liars’ books?” (I don’t carry them actually, since it’s a middle school), “Where can I find ‘Out of My Mind’?” (frequent request), “Where are books by Roald Dahl?”, “Where are the ‘Judy Moody’ books?”, “Do you have “The Hunger Games?”, “Can you help me find the ‘Twilight’ books?”, “Where are the books by James Patterson?”, “Where are the Mike Lupica books?”, “Do you have any books about Allen Iverson?”, “Can you help me find the Dan Gutman books?”, “Do you have any Fablehaven books?”, “Do you have “My Summer of Pink and Green?”, “Do you have the Hillside School books?” (he meant Wayside School), “Do you have “The Face on the Milk Carton?”. The beginning of the school year is always a rush. I hope to keep the book check-out momentum going all year. We’ll see.
