As much as we’ve been told to not judge a book by its cover, here’s an article in American Libraries that counsels to do exactly that. The writer of the article found that she was tired of reading book jackets and having the book spoiled by the major plot point summaries, so she made the decision to ignore them, as well as the name of the author, and focus instead on the cover and title of the book only. She chose several titles because the covers were blue, her favorite color, and also because the topic suggested by the title struck her fancy. One of the titles she chose was Goodnight June, by Sarah Jio, having something in common with Goodnight Moon, which was a favorite of hers. Reading the blurb made me want to read it too, since the premise has to do with letters between the main character’s aunt and Margaret Wise Brown. It sounds to me like a good idea to try in the future. If you want to check out the article, you can find it here.
