Hector, Simon Pegg, is a successful London psychiatrist. His patients are all looking for happiness, and, of course, it’s Hector’s job to help them define and achieve what they are all seeking. One day, Hector realizes that he is not sure exactly what happiness is. So begins his quest to seek the answer to this elusive question.
He leaves London and his beautiful, organized girlfriend, Rosamund Pike, and head off into the world traveling to China, Africa and eventually Los Angeles. Along the way he meets a successful businessman, Stellan Skarsgard, Chinese monks, an African war lord, a drug dealer, Jean Reno, and in Los Angeles, his former girlfriend, Toni Collette, and an aging hippy scientist, Christopher Plummer.
Although there is a lot of humor in this film, there are times when Hector is faced with some harrowing experiences. Simon Pegg and the entire cast are perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed this quirky film.
