Probably one type of book that has wide appeal for all adults is anything involving food. Two new books that we have on our shelves about foodies are “The Man Who Changed the Way We Eat” about Craig Claiborne and “Restaurant Man” about Joe Bastianich.
But what about kids and books about foodies. Well, two new picture books have been published for children ages 4-10. Both of these books deal with the quirky, talented Julia Child. “Bon Appetit!” by Jessie Hartland and “Minette’s Feast” by Susanna Reich were well reviewed in last week’s NYT Book Review section and in several library journals.
We received our copy of “Minette’s Feast” last week. It is a combination biography, story of a French cat, and simple explanation of some food preparation. Interspersed in the story are French words and terms which are explained in a glossary, along with notes and a more complete biography of Julia Child at the end of the book.
For kids looking for a simple biography that might offer a different alternative, this might be the one.
