This weekend’s Wall Street Journal has a fun article about touring Paris by following children’s books set in the ‘city of love’. “Madeline” is the most popular title that contains pictures of all the tourist hot spots. The author also suggests reading “The Red Balloon” (from 1956) and taking the 96 bus as did Pascal in the book/movie down into Paris to trace his footsteps. Author Brian Selznick called “The Red Balloon” his “first trip to Paris’. You can see places and things in “Hugo Cabret” if you visit train stations (Gare Montparnesse and Gare du Nord), for those who are Hugo fans. Other set-in-Paris children’s books that were recommended include: ‘Adele and Simon’, ‘Paris in Spring with Picasso,’ and ‘Madame Pamplemousse and her Incredible Edibles.’ Hope everyone has their passport up to date!
