Check out this website that I came across while reading an article from it in the RCLS weekly memo titled : “The 30 Best Places to be if you love books.” Which one is your favorite? I have to choose the Oxford Union Library, those chairs look pretty comfortable. But I also envy Professor Macksey’s library — imagine having all that space for books? This article was posted on Buzzfeed, which I had never heard of, but according to Wikipedia, Buzzfeed is a website “that combines a technology platform for detecting viral content with an editorial selection process to provide a snapshot of “the viral web in realtime.” Basically, it is a news and blogging site that consists of posts from staff and users, usually a link, video, or image. The posts reflect the purpose of the site, which is to capture ” viral media that is currently resonating on the web.” The site uses badges, or tags, to categorize the posts, such as lol, cute, and win, among others. In an article cited from the December 2008 NY Times, reporter Jenna Downham calls Buzzfeed “her favorite site to find a hot list of newsworthy items.” Apparently one of the Memo writers uses it also!
