Published anonymously in . Ex-Wife is a Fitzgerald-like tale of a young woman’s escapades in New York City. Ursula Parrott describes the drinking, sex and debauchery of the 1920’s from the female point of view of Patricia, married to Peter, but perhaps not for much longer. The iconic period of young women smoking and dancing, the fashions and frivolity are all here. But Patricia does not want to become the ex-wife and tells Peter she won’t give him a divorce. A fascinating look at this period-piece that was a sensation when first released, Parrott herself was married four times herself and a highly successful author. Several books were made into movies and yet she died poor and forgotten in 1957. If you enjoy The Great Gatsby, pick this one up. Also available on audio from Hoopla.
