This is a delightful read if you have any yearning to visit Tuscany or the countryside of Italy. The author describes every day life while living in a Tuscan villa, immersing the reader in the local culture while making one envious at the same time. Mayes also wrote Under the Tuscan Sun, that was later made into the film starring Diane Lane. I’ve only seen the movie, but I assume both reads are autobiographical, since the film deals with the trials and tribulations of buying an old villa in Tuscany, and Every Day with the delight of living in one that Mayes experiences. She also includes Tuscan recipes to try out, for those readers who like to cook. I just came across one of Mayes’ favorite designers, Piero Fornasetti, in one of our new books, Mid-Century Modern: Living with mid-century modern design, which I found very informative and interesting.
