What would it be like to wake up in a different body every day? A, the protagonist of David Levithan’s book, Every Day, wakes up as a different person each day of his/her life. A doesn’t identify as one gender, but rather just as a person. A exists from day to day as new person and often manages to avoid making any missteps to reveal his/her presence in the body. Everything changes when A falls in love with Rhiannon, a girl with a jerk of a boyfriend, and begins to pursue her regardless of which body he/she inhabits. A takes each new body to find Rhiannon for several days after he/she meets her and then finally admits the truth about the body hopping. Rhiannon is disbelieving at first, but soon begins to recognize A regardless of body. As the two grow closer, many obstacles present themselves to show just how difficult it would be to nurture such a love. The story is heart-wrenching and Levithan’s ability to create so many different characters for A to inhabit shows great skill.
