Dry Bones in the Valley

This book reads like a western but it takes place in northeastern Pennsylvania. The main character is the law man Henry Farrell, who grew up in Wilde Thyme, PA, and knows most everyone and most everything about them. A badly decomposed body is found in the woods. Then Farrell’s deputy is killed. Gas drilling is pitting neighbor against neighbor. Farrell thought he was going to fish and play fiddle with his group. But nooooo!

I like Bouman’s writing. He slips in some funny stuff about his characters such as “he was rumored to play the trombone but I couldn’t see it.” My only complaint is his chapters are too long. (I’m always looking for a place to stop. I didn’t realize this was one of my reading quirks, but it is.)
