Nick Oldham has penned a new series about a female British police officer, Jessica Raker, and his first title is very impressive. The action is riveting — the plot centers around Jessica’s fatal shooting of a mob member during a robbery, her life now in danger since the criminal’s father happens to be the head of said mob, and promises vengenance. Jessica is re-assigned on the “QT” to a so-called quiet rural town, where criminals unfortunately appear to best the police department at every turn. Jessica’s character is one to root for, and once begun, this novel will be hard to set aside until you reach the end. Definitely recommended for mystery fans…
